Learn About the Duke-Fuqua Weekend Executive MBA

The Duke-Fuqua Weekend Executive MBA (EMBA) program is based on the idea of creating leaders of consequence. Fuqua leaders are expected to give and to create – not to deplete and not to take without return. As such, the experience is developed largely around “Team Fuqua” — the school’s cohort of students who rely on one another’s knowledge and skills to create a better, more valuable idea or product. As they say, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts…

To qualify for the Fuqua EMBA, applicants must have at least 5 years of professional work experience. However, knowing that the average accepted student has 11 years of work experience and is 36 years old may help you to determine how competitive you will be in the admissions process.

All classes for the Fuqua Weekend EMBA are taught on Duke’s campus in Durham, North Carolina. For many candidates, the location is perfect for those who are employed locally in Raleigh or Charlotte, or for students for whom Durham is just a quick plane ride away, which is the case for many executives based in New York, Washington, DC, or Atlanta. (Note: Fuqua also offers a Global Executive MBA. See our blogs to learn more about it!)

Classes are held over 6 terms, alternating weekends on Fridays and Saturdays, with online distance learning offered in-between weekend residencies for the first 5 terms. For the final 6th term, classes are held on campus for 2 weeks while the rest of the term is completed online. In addition, students can also choose to participate in the Global Academic Travel Experience (GATE), a 2-week course offered between terms 3 and 4.

On top of core courses taught throughout the program, Fuqua EMBAs can also choose to concentrate in any one of five areas: Energy and the Environment; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Finance; Marketing; or Strategy. Of unique interest to health care professionals, students can also pursue a Certificate in Health Sector Management.

Fuqua EMBAs go on to forge excellent career paths with their MBA: many report receiving promotions, while others report that they were able to make a long-awaited career shift. Especially for a school with a name that travels far on the east coast and southern realm of the United States, going to a top MBA school like Duke-Fuqua can truly launch you into the next level of your career.
