The Indian School of Business Post-Graduate Program
Founded by two former McKinsey & Company senior executives, the Indian School of Business (ISB) is one of India’s premier business schools with campuses in Hyderabad and Mohali. ISB’s champion program is the Post-Graduate Program (PGP), a one-year study equivalent to an MBA.
Offered on both campuses, ISB enrolls over 700 students in total for PGP. The program is geared toward professionals looking to take a break at mid-career, with the number of years in the work sector being ranging from between 2.5 and 7.5.
PGP is based on a set of 5 core learning goals that are achieved through both individual and team-based work: interpersonal awareness and working in teams; critical and integrative thinking; awareness of global issues affecting business; effective oral communication; and ethical responsibility. PGP is divided into 8 terms: the first 4 terms cover core courses which include financial accounting and decision making, statistical methods for management decisions, competitive strategy, and global economics. In the final 4 terms, students can choose their electives and specializations in sectors such as entrepreneurship, marketing, healthcare, information and technology management, and operations management, among others.
In addition to academic courses, students also engage in a practicum known as the Experiential Learning Program (ELP). Through ELP, students consult with industries outside the campus as part of their elective curriculum to combine students’ knowledge, experience, and values. Many past students have been able to positively impact companies’ bottom line through their strategy proposals and work, which may include digital marketing, pricing strategy, building a strategic roadmap, or evaluating investment opportunities.
Another key aspect of the ISB PGP is LEAD, or the Leadership Development Program. Upon acceptance to ISB, students are automatically enrolled in LEAD, a 3-day program aimed at helping students to better understand their strengths and how to act on them to build a better business leader. LEAD focuses on assessment to help students identify their strengths, it challenges them by forcing students into new experiences to build new capabilities, and it supports them by forming study groups and encouraging motivation for students’ continuous learning and growth. Through LEAD, ISB students are able to create an individual and team-based action plan for success in the following year at PGP.
Finally, life at ISB is rich with student clubs such as Women in Business Club, Retail Club, and Healthcare Club. Student-organized initiatives saturate the campuses including the Energy Conclave, Real Estate and Infrastructure Summit, and the Private Equity Conference. ISB also caters to students with families through a day care center and playgroup.
