The London Business School Executive MBA Program

London Business School (LBS) is the only UK-based business school to be ranked in the Financial Times’ “Top Ten Schools in Europe”, where it has held the number three spot for three years in a row. LBS’s Executive MBA (EMBA) programs have also grown in size and prestige in recent years. LBS currently offers two fully fledged EMBA programs, two global EMBA programs, and one executive fellowship program.

LBS houses two rigorous full-time EMBA programs: EMBA London and EMBA Dubai. The typical EMBA applicant has between five and twenty-two years of work experience as a high-caliber manager, executive or entrepreneur, with an average of ten years of experience. Because EMBA applicants are generally busy executives, the LBS programs do their best to accommodate busy schedules by offering classes on days that allow executives to continue to thrive in their career as well as their education. The EMBA London program, for instance, offers its classes on Fridays and Saturdays of alternate weeks, while the EMBA Dubai program offers its core modules in a four- or five-day block of each month in Dubai. Both of the 20-month programs allow for international study opportunities so that students gain an international perspective to emerge as leaders in the world’s most influential markets.

By partnering with other international business school, LBS enrolls an additional 200 executives in global EMBA programs. The EMBA Global Americas and Europe program is a comprehensive, dual-degree program built in conjunction with Columbia Business School. EMBA Global Americas and Europe students graduate after 20 months with degrees from both schools after taking classes over several days per month, alternating between Columbia’s campus in New York and LBS’s campus in London. Students also have the option to study in other markets as part of the International Seminar or Assignment portion of the program.

Similarly, the EMBA Global Asia program partners with the University of Hong Kong to offer an MBA degree for students who wish to study at any of LBS’s three learning hubs – Hong Kong, London, and New York – in a similar timeline and structure as the EMBA Global Americas and Europe program. While both global EMBA programs submerge students in a significant amount of international market material, the EMBA Global Asia program is designed specifically for high-level executives who expect a large amount of transnational responsibility in their future careers.

Finally, the Sloan Fellowship at LBS is a highly competitive program designed for seasoned executives with an average of fifteen years of management experience. The 12-month full-time Master’s degree program awards participants with a Master’s degree in Leadership and Strategy, which, similar to an MBA, is designed to shape executive managers into highly influential leaders. The typical Sloan Fellowship class is diverse and represents students from 20 or more countries. Graduates of the Sloan Fellowship, which have included big names such as Kofi Annan and Carly Fiorina, have described the program as “transformational”. The Sloan Fellowship also runs at Stanford Graduate School of Business and MIT Sloan School of Management.
